In the last Q+A podcast there was a question about Suunto Zonesense, which uses realtime HRV data, which I had not heard of before so I did some research.  If it works as described, it displays in real time on your watch whether your current intensity (with slight lag) is below LT1, between LT1 and 2, or above LT2.  And it supposedly dynamically adjusts throughout the workout accounting for fatigue.  And it also learns each sport/activity from your data knowing, as Evoke often says, that each sport’s zones are a bit differerent from each other.  Sounds a little too good to be true but Suunto has some videos showing data and real world examples.  Much of this aligns perfectly with the Evoke philosophies.  Any Evokers try this?

I just purchased a Suunto Vertical watch and am planning to use ZoneSense for my incline treadmill and ski touring workouts. Will post back here in a few weeks after I’ve gotten a feel for how well it’s actually predicting my zones.

    Any insights yet, Risto?

    Hey,

Sorry to have not replied. I ended up returning the Vertical because the daily HR monitoring for purposes of recovery and stress were so bad it was unusable. I was only able to use Zonesense a couple times for incline treadmill workouts and didn’t get a good enough sense of it to say whether it was useful or not. Hopefully other folks will be able to try it out and give an assessment.

    Be well,

    Risto
