Meet Seth Keena
Seth Keena came to mountain sports in 2007 with a base of distance running and cycling; technical rock and ice climbing quickly became primary passions. Combining the technical and simple endurance interests has created long remote ridge traverses in the North Cascades and Canadian Rockies, steep skis, technical rock climb linkups, and fast summit ascents. Mountaineering, skiing and climbing have taken him to Alaska, Europe and South America.
In 2015 Seth began a three year apprenticeship with Scott Johnston. The two spent many hours discussing all things coaching and training. Seth began full-time coaching in 2018 with Uphill Athlete and continues excellent coaching today with Evoke Endurance.
To continually deepen knowledge and hone his craft, Seth has around him a large network of coaches, nutritionist, physical therapists, and experienced mountain guides. He has worked hard to create a big coaching experience base and, along the way, has engaged with a wide range of disciplines and demographics: alpine and rock climbers, skiers, runners, mountaineers, full-time mountain guides. In addition to the ‘hardcore’, Seth has extensive experience coaching the novice, intermediate, youth, and those living far from the hills.
He brings a passion for creating tools to solve problems and educate, and has a decade of experimenting with workouts to fit unique athlete goals and training circumstances. Keeping to the core of coaching, Seth carefully collects feedback and data from athletes while he applies his experience and the sound principles found in this website and the books, Training for the New Alpinism and Training for the Uphill Athlete.
