Hey Scott,
Just wanted to say your explanation was very helpful to know why we aren’t doing more weight on the weighted hikes. When they were too easy I was tempted to put more weight in (and sometimes did, up to 20%), and was tempted to go higher. Good to understand why to hold back on too much weight.
SMKSParticipantLove that Scott is able to give amazing suggestions on training to run a mile PR 😄.
I don’t have an answer to the questions, other than I’d recommend cutting the strength work down to 1 per week to maintain what you’ve built, and to add one week every 4 weeks where you take it down a notch on the intensity/overall volume to recover a bit (obviously do this also on race week). This is coming from someone with absolutely no qualifications (other than ONCE having run a 4:57 mile). Scott talks about doing a maintenance work out in TFTNA, but obviously in very different context/goals.
SMKSParticipantAll of the pickups I see in the 24-week mountaineering course are specifically on FLATS.

SMKSParticipant+1 I have this same question. There are a few items in the video (and previous UpHill Athlete post) that are no longer linked in the PDF from the 24-week mountaineering course. Such as:
- Killer push-ups
- Hanging leg raises
- Side Planks
Should we no longer do the above? Just trying to figure out if I’m going to light.
Similar question for the General Strength exercises which no longer include:
- Squat
- Hanging Leg Raise
