    Hi,

I have been training since February based on the Uphill Athlete book and re-testing my AeT every month or so, and happily seeing some (slow) progress! Recently, I did a drift test on a 10 percent treadmill with a starting HR of 125 and had a 1% drift, so I tried my next test with a starting HR of 130.

I’m linking both workout files so you can see the data, (here is my 15 minute warmup, here is my 1 hr test), but essentially I maintained (within a few beats) a HR of 130 for 3 mins at the end of my warmup, then had an avg. HR of 126 for the first 30 minutes, and an average HR of 130 for the second 30 minutes. This is approximately a 3 percent increase, which would lead me to think 130 is right around my AeT. But is that the case given that my average HR in the second half was the same as my starting HR? Does it make sense to re-test, and perhaps maintain a starting HR for longer before beginning the 1 hr test?

    Thanks!

    Doug:

Based on what you have said I think you can trust the results of this test.  I suspect that your starting HR might have been lower than 130 since HR bounces around a lot.  maybe try averaging your HR data for the first 5 or 10 minutes.  If you do want to retest I would hold the starting HR for longer to allow it to stabilize.

Scott, thank you for the advice, that makes sense.
