    Dear Evoke Community,

to build an aerobic base we have two training guidelines:

    • to determine training intensity we have the drift test and
    • to gauge training volume we should be able to the same workout for days in a row without accumulating too much fatigue.

My question is whether the volume guideline even applies to the long run. Should we choose intensity and volume low enough so that we are able to repeat the long run for several days in a row?

I would not be able to do that, in fact I need a restday after the long run and I wonder if I am doing too much – maybe I am taking money out of my bank account with my long run (which is currently still a long walk 😉 ).

I am curious to hear your opinions and experiences! 🙂

    Christian:

That rule of thumb, which states that you should be able to do the same run day after day, does not apply to the long run of the week.  We normally program the long run of the week on the weekend when most people have more time and then usually make Monday a rest day.  Try arranging your week so you have a rest day after the long run and see if this does not help.

    Scott.

    Hi Scott,

thank you very much for your reply! That clarification was really helpful.
As always: I enjoy how you give general guidelines but also tell the details and exceptions. 🙂

    Best whishes
