Hello.
After the recent Podcast with Adrian Ballinger, i had a few questions and re-read the article below:
https://www.mensjournal.com/adventure/how-adrian-ballinger-summited-everest-without-oxygen-w484387
1. Adrian mentioned that he kept getting cold, on his summit attempt of Everest. After his training with Scott, this did not seem to be an issue in the following successful summit. Would this be simply due to the fact that the fat burning system, unlike the carbohydrate system, requires less eating and therefore he had the energy/food to sustain his body temperature? He now was using more fat as fuel which meant he could eat less but received more than enough energy or is there something else going on?
2. I’ve been apart or UA and Evoke for a while so Ive totally bought into and believe in the methodology, however, to play Devils Advocate for a minute. According to the article, Adrian was mostly using carbs as fuel in the first attempt, in the second, after training with Scott he was more fat adapted. Even as a primarily carb burning athlete (ie: 135 bpm using carbs) Adrian had exceptional endurance. So what is the harm in being a mostly carb adapted if one can potentially achieve the fitness of someone like Adrian on his first attempt?
Thanks
Jeremy

A fat adapted athlete has more to burn without being dependent upon those simple carbs.
