In 2008, Nikki LaRochelle moved to Breckenridge, Colorado – a high-altitude mountain sports Mecca – and her love of endurance sports grew tremendously.
In 2016, Nikki qualified to become a member of the United States Ski Mountaineering National Team and went on to race in the World Championships in 2017 in Italy. This was a challenge, given she had her first child in 2015! She was able to maintain her spot on the US National Team to return to race at the World Championships in 2019 in Switzerland. Regionally, Nikki has a number of wins and podium positions at notable skimo races, including the Grand Traverse, the Power of Four, and other individual races on the COSMIC race circuit.
While Nikki enjoys competing in ultra running and mountain biking in the summer, her true passion lies in personal projects, often including long, technical ridge traverses. In 2018, Nikki was able to traverse the entire Mosquito/Ten Mile Range, which is the longest, highest continuous ridge in the Continental US, with the bulk of the route rising above 13,000 feet. She believes projects such as this can be just as gratifying as any race.
As a coach, Nikki is eager to work with any athlete and enjoys the process of finding their personal athletic potential. She is interested in coaching methodology and a firm believer in consistent work. Nikki is invested in the goals and outcomes of her athletes and will not only be their dedicated coach but also their biggest cheerleader.
