    Scott,

Thank you for these series! It’s excellent to hear you get into the weeds on these concepts.

Was it Cal Dietz, who’s name you were trying to remember in “Chapter 6: Training Strength And Power” [1]?

I’ve only recently discovered his work, which you both frame strength development with the end goal of athletic performance. Apparently, he’s also greatly influenced by Verkhoshansky. Any thoughts on his methods for us mountain athletes? For example, performing step ups and squats with floated heels (in more sport specific stance), or periodizing eccentric, isometric and concentric work (triphasic), both to better build our base prior to a power phase?

    Eddie:

It was Vern Gambetta whose name I couldn’t recall during the book club talk.  He has been the S&C coach for many pro sports teams as well as running and swimming teams.

I’ll check out Cal Dietz’s work and get back to you here.

Thanks for the correction, Scott. I’ll check out Gambetta too. If you’re interested, Deitz’s book “TriPhasic Training” is an interesting read, where he references a number of Russian coaches including Verkhoshansky. And here’s a youtube clip [1] on how he trains his athletes to squat.  Anyway, thanks again for providing such great lectures.
