Im in Canada and looking for an affordable treadmill that will go a bit above 15% incline. My wife wants to use it for walking and I want to use it for hiking/alpine training. I would be running and hitting some incline too. I know theres the Nordictrack ones but they are quite expensive, any alternatives?

Horizon Fitness has recently popped up on my radar because they have a lower price point than NordicTrack, Peleton, etc. It seems that Horizon achieved a lower cost by de-coupling the big video display from the machine and instead relying on users to “bring their own video screen” like an iPad etc. This seems like a better way to bring the cost down than including the screen but sacrificing build quality. I have never used a Horizon machine so I suggest you do some research and read all the reviews so that you can make your own fully informed decision.

It doesn’t have all the distracting frills, changes speed quickly, and it goes to 15% incline. So far, the build quality has been good and I’ve had no issues. Their phone app for pre-programming workouts is a little clunky but it’s functional.
If you crank the incline and try and run, the treadmill can get shakey especially if you don’t have a smooth gait or you’re at higher speeds. But I don’t think that’s surprising.
All in all I’ve been very happy with my Horizon treadmill.
