This passion for movement in the mountains has spanned various disciplines including climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding and trail running.
As years passed his dedication to the craft of movement in the mountains evolved to include endurance and speed events. He was a member of the US National Ski Mountaineering Team for 6 years and won the US Ski Mountaineering Championships in 2012. In 2007 he discovered trail running as a great balance of mountain movement with less risk than climbing and mountaineering, and that turned in to a career as a professional mountain runner. He has competed all over the globe in various disciplines and distances including the Skyrunning World Series and spanning to the Tor Des Geants.
In addition to his career as an athlete, Luke is also a Physician Assistant. Professionally he works in orthopedics and spends as much time as possible learning and practicing wilderness medicine. He holds a Diploma in Mountain Medicine and is a Fellow in The Academy of Wilderness Medicine, he applies this experience to his time in the mountains as a ski patroller, avalanche and outdoor emergency care instructor, and owner of Alpine Endurance Medicine, a business focused on wilderness education in the context of outdoor sport and consulting for various events, guides and outfitters.
As a coach Luke strives to combine the years of personal experience with a strong understanding of human physiology with the proven techniques and strategies developed by Scott Johnston. He sees the relationship with his athletes as a mutually beneficial experience to grow and learn together while exploring the edges of human potential.
